July 12

More big signings this week.

Alberto Gilardino has joined Fiorentina, leaving AC Milan and partners Adrian Mutu as a striker. Striker Peter Crouch has also left Liverpool, and joined Portsmouth.

Liverpool, meanwhile, have been rushing into the transfer market.
Andrea Dossena moved from Udinese, Vincent Weijl from AZ Alkmaar (who, at 17, may lead the reserve team for now), Swiss international Philipp Degen, and Diego Cavalieri from SE Palmeiras.

There are also talks going on around the football world. Although many are rumors, some have leaked, including Portsmouth's go-ahead to sign Shawn Wright-Phillips, Roma going for Julio Baptista, Barcelona for 8M rated Thiago Neves, but none have come close to Arsenal and AC Milan's rumors.

AC are planning to sign Emmanuel Adebayor from the English giants, with £24m on the line, and French youngster Yoann Gourcuff.

Outside transfers, Sir Alex Ferguson is prepping for the UEFA Super Cup, with a victory making him the first manager to win the tournament thrice. Withouth C. Ronaldo on the sidelines, the Red Devils might need to push more effort against UEFA Cup champions FC Zenit St. Petersburg.

I think one editorial caught my eye today.
